Backspin Advice

GIST: Nothing fancy (yeah, right!), just a simple tutorial covering the basics of how to make your ball spin, bite and roll back to you after landing on the green.
MY TAKE: To date, I’ve only managed to do a spin back once in my life, undoubtedly purely accidental since I wasn’t even remotely thinking of doing anything of the sort. What I have managed to do on more than one occasion, with my lob wedge to be specific, is stop the ball more or less where it landed on the green, something that article author David Nevogt opines is more desirable. Go figure. But David, having that ball spin back is way cool!
My playing partners’ jaws always drop whenever I pull off one of these ball stoppers. What I haven’t told them: In every case, I was actually trying to impart pull back backspin! Maybe someday I’ll figure out how to make the ball do what I really want it to do. In the meantime, what those guys don’t know won’t hurt me. [GO]
