Don’t Fix It… Buy “Experienced”

Have you broken the shaft or damaged a club and plan to have it fixed by your local club repair service? If you’re under no time pressure, it may make more fiscal sense — and substantially so — to simply buy an identical but used replacement instead.
An option made possible of course courtesy of the various used golf equipment sources on the Internet.
For example, I broke the graphite shaft of one of my favorite 3-Woods, an Orlimar TriMetal Plus. Calling around, the cheapest repair estimate was $70 for installing the same model shaft. Emphasis on estimate; we all know what that often means.
Since I was in no rush, off I went to eBay. Got lucky: Within only a couple of days, I had bid on and won an exact duplicate of my club, same shaft and all. Albeit a used (experienced) one. Total cost: $46, including shipping. In less than a week, UPS was at my doorstep with my “new” club.
The club’s definitely not in pristine condition, but it’s in good shape. Bottom line: I’m back in business with the club I want for at least $24 less than I would have paid to have my old 3W repaired. Plus, I also have a back up identical 3W head just in case (or maybe I’ll put it up for auction on eBay).
Of course you won’t find everything on eBay. But you never know; check it out and you’ll see tons of golfing items. And it isn’t the only source of decent used equipment online. Below are links to sites you may want to bookmark. And do a Google search for the specific model you want; there’s a good chance you’ll find more than just a few sources.
