You’ll probably agree that opinions across the board vary. However I think it’s probably safe to say that most people think that getting the ball airborne all comes down to the angle of the club face. While that’s partially true, there is a lot more than that to take into consideration.
If you were to actually analyze the point of contact between the club face, the ball and the ground in super slow motion, you’d notice that the face of the club kind of pinches the ball between itself (club face) and the ground. This is what gives the ball air, almost like a micro rebound which obviously happens in a ‘nano second’.

PREVIOUSLY: Attitude to Others
We should: Remember always that golf is much more a game of subtlety than strength, and that hitting it straight is far more important than hitting it long. As Harvey Penick, who taught both Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite throughout their distinguished careers, used to say: “The woods are full of long hitters.”

This is the best golf swing setup routine I’ve ever come across…
OK, here we go. This is something that I was shown by a pro golfer. I’ve never seen this before in any golfing material before or since. It is a setup routine to ensure that you are exactly the right distance from the ball every time with every club.
I have checked this golf swing setup routine with the setup of some of the world’s top pro golfers, and it is bang on. I really benefited from this setup.

When we think about the basics of the golf swing, we usually think about ball position, stance, grip, and so on. In other words, we think about the swing’s physical mechanics. That’s only natural, because its what most golf pros focus on in their golf lessons and what golf magazines highlight in their articles on the golf swing. It’s what I write about the most in my golf tips as well.
But not everyone agrees that these are the true basics of the golf swing. For many, the true basics of the swing are something quite different, something that has nothing to do with the physical mechanics of the swing. For these people, a swing’s true basics are four components: plane, centering, radius, and face. Golf instruction sessions focusing on these concepts are as helpful as golf lessons on the swing’s mechanics, maybe even more helpful.

Tip by Dean Caporella
The golf club is an amazing piece of equipment. The thought and planning that goes into producing a club, whether an iron or a driver, is quite staggering.
What many golfers fail to realize is that clubs are designed a particular way for a reason.

Completing a smooth swing comes naturally to some golfers but for most of us, practicing is the only way we can get this part of the game right.
Have you ever felt off balance when going through with the swing motion? I know I have. The left knee leans towards the right, the shoulders seem to be out of alignment and the hip sways in an unnatural fashion.

Tip by Dean Caporella
Never be in a rush when playing your shot.
Improving your golf swing is all about controlling the movement of the club. Sure you can hit the ball with plenty of power, but this doesn’t mean you need to swing as hard and as fast as you can.

Tip by Dean Caporella
Maintaining a correct grip on the club during the back swing is vital.
It’s not just the initial grip on the club that’s important; keeping your thumb pointing towards the heavens at the halfway mark of the swing is essential.

I have always liked the medium irons, the 4-, 5-, and 6-, for they are the clubs which come into use so often in tournament play. Also, the 5-Iron is the dividing iron between the medium and short irons, and it is an excellent club to practice with when learning the iron game. It has just enough loft and distance to enable the beginner to acquire the feel for the entire golf swing.
I’ve spent hundreds of hours practicing the medium irons, and I feel they are a strong part of my game.

I realize that you get golf tips all the time, but with any luck you may not have heard about some of these and they will in turn make you a better golfer. If you’re anything like me, every little bit helps.
1. Keep your eyes where the ball was. The goal here is pretty self explanatory. We want to avoid the urge to follow the ball with our eyes. As you hit the ball, keep your eyes focused on the ground where the ball was. This is especially true with short putts.
