Fairway Bunker Club Selection

Selecting what clubs to play from a fairway bunker is a pain in the you-know-what.
Selecting what clubs to play from a fairway bunker is a pain in the you-know-what.
Here’s something I often forget when playing from fairway bunkers (fortunately I don’t find myself in those too often, knock on wood):
I noticed something interesting at the range the other day: The best hitters were all holding their finishes, “posing” until their balls had stopped rolling.
The typical not-so-goods (including me), well, don’t. Rushing to set up the next shot is more what I see with this crowd.
I like to remind myself of this little visual imagery trick periodically. For more accurate aim and alignment, visualize that you’re standing on the inside rail of a railroad track, and the ball is on the outside rail… which, of course, runs parallel to the one you’re standing on.
Feeling the clubhead, which pretty much tells you where it is at all times, is pretty darn critical in a good swing. But periodically, you can “lose” the feel, particularly with steel-shafted clubs, in my experience. Here’s how I get it back easily.
Looking for the golf tips?
They’re now all going to be on my HumanGolf.com site.
Golfdirt is being repurposed… stay tuned… some itneresting new golf content coming soon!
All PGA Tour players are long ball hitters… at least when compared to us. What else do they all have in common? Watch them closely: They all have and hold their wrists cocked until the very last moment right before impact. Held wrist cock = Power? You betcha!
Am I the best golfer in the world? Not even close. But I am a writer and a halfway decent fact/data collector (hoarder, really). For some reason, I’ve been keeping notes on the tons of golf tips I can’t help but stumble upon online and off. Years’ worth of the stuff.
Well, I’ve decided to go through my golf tip notebooks and text files and start posting all my faves right here.
