April 28, 2008 – 11:54 pm | by Golfdirt

One of the least practiced aspects of golf is course management. I will give you five tips to help manage your golf game. By learning to manage your game you will find your scores dropping dramatically, and your approach to golf will be a whole lot different.

If you listen to the commentators on the PGA Tour, you will hear them say things like, “That now gives him an easy approach to the pin, cut back behind the bunker on the left” or “That’s not what he would have wanted as he now has very little green to work with.” Listen to what they say and you will learn that there is a totally new and exciting dimension to this game.

How to Correct Your Golf Hook in 5 Easy Steps

April 27, 2008 – 8:54 pm | by Golfdirt

By Aaron Leonard

Dirt on the Golf Swing1. First, the easiest thing to check is your grip. If your grip is too strong (hands positioned too far right on the grip) then this can promote a closed club face, promoting a hook. Weaken your grip by making sure your thumbs are pointing straight down the middle of the shaft instead of to the right.

2. Next, you will want to focus your attention on your posture. Hold your club out directly in front of you. If you stand too upright, your swing may tend to be a little too wide and your hands may become a little too active coming over the ball.

Get More Distance With Your Driver

April 26, 2008 – 3:39 pm | by Golfdirt

By Lawrence Bredenkamp

Dirt on PowerI am about to spoil some of the things you may believe about getting more distance with your driver. And then I am going to tell you how you can quite easily get more distance using your existing driver.

So many golfers think that by going out and spending $800 on the latest driver, all their problems will be solved and that miraculously they will be able to hit the ball the proverbial mile — and straight to boot!

It’s a fascinating fact that with the huge advancement in golf technology the past 50 years, the average club member’s handicap has not improved by as much as even a half a stroke. These are facts borne out by statistics, not some BS that I am making up to get you to give up the game of golf.

Why Do I Slice the Ball?

April 25, 2008 – 8:07 pm | by Golfdirt

By Lawrence Bredenkamp

Dirt on the Golf SwingHave you ever asked yourself, “Why do I slice the ball?” If so, you are not alone. Over 90% of club golfers suffer from this problem.

First off you need to know what causes a slice. I don’t want to get too technical here as this article is supposed to give you a few simple tips on how to avoid or reduce your slice. Two things have to be present to create a slice. First, you must have an out-to-in swing path; in other words, your club face is cutting across the ball causing it spin sideways. Second, you must have an open club face. Both of these factors must be present to create a slice.

How to Lower Your Golf Handicap Rapidly

April 24, 2008 – 8:29 pm | by Golfdirt

By Marla Paulsone

Golf TipsLearning how to improve at golf can be a great challenge. The bottom line is that regular practice and commitment are important. However the quality of your practice is also a key factor in determining how fast you improve. The first step is to identiy where you currently stand as a golfer and what your strengths and weaknesses are.

After taking a close look at your game, if you find that you three putt too many times during a round, then you need to pay more attention to your putting. If you find that you are missing most fairways, then you need to pay more attention to your long game. If you find that your wedges and chipping around the green is not getting the ball up and down most of the time, then you need to spend more time on shots around the green.

Perfect Your Backswing

April 23, 2008 – 10:48 pm | by Golfdirt

By Verlyn Ross

Dirt on the Golf SwingA great backswing requires practice and understanding the biomechanics of the golf swing.

A good backswing starts with your hands, and then the arms and shoulders follow in one smooth motion.

Swing easily and smoothly. When you are ready, tee the ball up and swing away. Swing issues and technical moves should be worked out on the practice range.

Shorter backswings and the longer ones are both relative to the amount of shoulder rotation each golfer creates. John Daly can turn his shoulders back more than 90 degrees.

Improve Your Golf Swing Today

April 21, 2008 – 9:18 pm | by Golfdirt

By Steve Crooks

Dirt on the Golf SwingAs a golfer, the most important trick of your trade is your swing. The importance of a good swing can never be over emphasized. If a good swing is part of your repertoire, your game should improve by leaps and bounds. Following are some small details that could help you master that elusive golf swing.

Contrary to popular belief, the perfect swing is not really about a golfer’s powerful arms. What you need to learn and master is bringing your whole body to direct a concentrated and powerful swing of the club. Having strong arms alone is not going to get you that. Remember, more power and more control means a better swing. Your entire body is going to turn with your club, but don’t forget to keep your legs facing the ball. Also, your leading arm should not be bent at all. For a backswing, the force should come from right around your body. This helps to gather the power before the final swing.

April 20, 2008 – 6:39 pm | by Golfdirt

By Norman Stanley

Putting Tips and MoreDrive for show putt for dough the saying goes. The meaning behind this is that you will, on average use your driver eight to ten times a round, maybe a little more, maybe a little less; you will, however, use your putter on average 36 times in a regulation round, and on a good day. We have all had rounds I’m sure where the flat stick has been out of the bag 30 times in the front nine. Think about it, that’s 36 strokes, that’s half the strokes on a regular par 72 course! So miss a turn at the driving range and head for the putting green to cut your strokes.

Your actual putting stroke aside, here are five simple putting ’looks’ to get your score card into a healthier condition.
